911 Dispatch Center

This is a Drill! Archer County Sheriff Staci Beesinger indicates their 9-1-1 dispatch center has been overloaded with telephone calls from residents near Lake Kickapoo, concerned about the overwhelming, noxious fumes associated with the oil spill. She explains residents continue to question whether or not they should shelter-in-place (and turn off their air conditioning units) or evacuate their homes due to potential health and safety concerns. Sheriff Beesinger seeks input from the pipeline’s operator, as local emergency managers prepare to draft a public safety announcement with regards to the incident, which will enable their dispatchers to communicate the most accurate and up-to-date information. She suggests for the announcement to be formatted in a series of questions and answers, addressing such key issues as air monitoring, symptoms of contaminant exposure, spill avoidance, etc. This is a Drill!
